The Energy Ministry delivered the first batch of alcohol under its “United Power to Fight Covid-19” project to the Nonthaburi governor for hospitals in the province, aiming to distribute 2.4 million litres nationwide in 30 days.

Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said his ministry is collaborating with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), PTT and affiliates to procure 70 per cent sterilised alcohol for delivery to the Public Health Ministry. The alcohol will be sent to hospitals across the country to be used by medical personnel, patients and the elderly in cleaning their hands, hospital equipment, surfaces and general areas to keep Covid-19 from spreading.

“Today [April 20] is the first day that alcohol will be distributed to every district hospital beginning with Nonthaburi, which has 76 sub-district hospitals. Some 7,600 litres of alcohol has been supplied to the Nonthaburi governor for distribution,” Sonthirat said.

PTT and Egat are using a joint budget of Bt120 million for this project to procure ethanol from factories to produce 70 per cent sterilised alcohol amounting to 2.4 million litres. This will be delivered to 9,863 sub-district hospitals nationwide, or 20 litres per hospital, every six days.
