The Meteorological Department said today (April 21) that a thermal low is covering upper Thailand, while the southerly and southeasterly winds are bringing the humidity to the lower North, the Northeast, the Central and the East regions.
Hot conditions with outbreaks of thundershowers are likely in some areas of the North, the Northeast, and the East regions. People in upper Thailand should beware of severe weather, it warned. The weakening easterly wind prevails over the South and the Gulf, causing less rain in the South.
In addition, from April 22-25, outbreaks of summer storms are forecast for upper Thailand, first in the Northeast then the other regions, accompanied by thunderstorms, lighting and gusty winds. Hail is possible in certain regions.
Following are the weather forecast for the next 24 hours:
Northern region: Hot to extremely warm with thunder showers in 10 percent of the region; temperature lows of 23-28 degrees and highs of 38-43 degrees Celsius.
Northeastern region: Hot to very hot with thunderstorms in 10 percent of the area, temperature lows of 24-28 degrees and highs of 39-40 degrees Celsius.
Central region: Hot to very hot, partly cloudy; temperatures of 25-28 degrees, highs 37-42 degrees Celsius.
Eastern region: Hot with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the area; temperature lows of 26-29 degrees, highs of 34-39 degrees Celsius; waves less than a metre high and 1 metre during thundershowers.
Southern region (east coast): Thundershowers in 10 per cent of the area; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 35-37 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high and 2 metres during thundershowers.
Southern region (west coast): Thundershowers in 20 per cent of the area; temperature lows of 24-26 degrees, highs of 35-38 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.
Bangkok and surrounding areas: Partly cloudy with hot weather during the day; temperature lows of 26-28 degrees, highs of 36-39 degrees Celsius.
