SET rises despite concerns over second Covid wave in many countries

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed at 1,346.47 on Friday, up 10.16 points or 0.76 per cent. Total transactions amounted to Bt97.02 billion with an index high of 1,352.51 and a low of 1,327.73.

During the morning session, Krungsri Securities forecast that SET will move between 1,325 and 1,330 points, since there are no new factors to stimulate investment. Some investors are concerned about many countries reimposing lockdowns due to a new wave of Covid-19 virus.

The 10 stocks with the highest trade value on Friday were KBANK, SCB, BAM, PTT, SCGP, STGT, AOT, ADVANC, BBL and GULF.

As of 4.30pm, the price of oil dropped by US$0.44 or 1.07 per cent to $40.68 per barrel, while gold rose by $2.10 or 0.111 per cent, to $1,875.40 per ounce.

Other Asian indices were mixed:

Japan’s Nikkei Index closed at 25,385.87, down 135.01 points or 0.53 per cent.

China’s Shanghai SE Composite Index closed at 3,310.10, down 28.57 points or 0.86 per cent, while the Shenzhen SE Component Index closed at 13,754.55, down 37.52 points or 0.27 per cent.


Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed at 26,156.86, down 12.52 points or 0.0.048 per cent.

South Korea’s KOSPI Index closed at 2,493.87, up 18.25 points or 0.74 per cent.

Taiwan’s TAIEX Index closed at 13,273.33, up 51.55 points or 0.39 per cent.
