Thammasat to close both campuses for one week

Thammasat University announced on Sunday (March 15) that it will close all campuses for one week from March 16 to 22 as part of efforts to prevent and control the spread of the new coronavirus ( Covid-19) and to prepare for online classes.

The announcement cited World Health Organisation’s declaration of Covid-19 as a global pandemic on March 11, coupled with the fact that some of its students have travelled to countries with high risk of infection in the past weeks. “Although these students are now under quarantine and/or treatment at government specified facilities, the university decided to close down both its Tha Phrachan and Rangsit campuses to prevent the virus spreading and reduce the chance of infection among our faculty members, staff and students,” said the announcement.

“Also shutting the campuses will give all faculties time to prepare their online classrooms and online administration, which will be necessary if the outbreak situation escalates.”

The university said it expects all faculties to have online classrooms ready to run by next Monday (March 23). It will also hold a meeting on Monday (March 16) among executives from academic service departments, university council office and internal audit office to discuss measures for staff to work from home, whereas only a few selected staff will be stationed at the campuses from March 17 while the rest will work from their residences.
